The Malta location is the site of Fab 8, the company’s most advanced semiconductor manufacturing facility, and the move underscores their commitment to addressing the soaring global chip demand, with a focus on semiconductor manufacturing innovation.
GlobalFoundries has invested more than $15 billion in its Fab 8 facility over the last decade to support semiconductor innovation and manufacturing capacity. In 2021, the company is doubling its planned investment to expand global capacity, with $500 million targeted for Malta, NY alone.
GlobalFoundries plans to double capacity at the Malta site in the years to come in partnership with their customers and with local, state and federal governments. The company’s move and investment in the upstate New York facility support the growing efforts to expand domestic chip production in the US.
