The discrete power semiconductor and optoelectronics industry has reached its strongest growth since 2012, according to SEMI. This growth is especially prevalent in automotive, networking, and IoT applications.
With the continued demand and growth within the 5G mobile communication infrastructure, the supply of 6-inch and 8-inch diameter silicon wafers is running thin. Despite the tight supply, this growth also provides opportunities for power semiconductors.
In addition, industry analysts expect capacity for compound related facilities to grow by 21% between 2017 and 2022, as well as 50% expected growth in EPI-related growth.
